Pink lagoon & flamingos from Progreso — keep the geography honest
Cruise-friendly “pink lagoon” days from Progreso usually mean coastal wetlands and salt flats nearer the north Yucatán shore — often discussed alongside Xcambó, Laguna Rosada / Charcas de Sal style stops, and birdwatching around places such as Uaymitún. Those loops are commonly in the roughly 30–40 minute drive band from the port area, not a half-day dash to the far east of the peninsula.
Do not confuse this with Las Coloradas or the wider Ría Lagartos area. Those pink lakes and flamingo colonies sit much farther east (on the order of three hours’ driving from Progreso in typical road-route estimates). They are a different planning problem and are not a realistic default for many cruise windows.
