Freshwater Swimming

Cenote Shore
Excursion

Swim planning notes — and why Cuzamá and Ik Kil are not the same product.

Cenotes from Progreso — do not conflate the products

Yucatán cenotes are limestone sinkholes with freshwater swimming. For cruise planning, the important honesty check is that “cenote excursion” can mean different things.

Ik Kil-style open cenotes are often discussed as add-ons to Chichén Itzá days — dramatic circular openings with stairs and facilities. Cuzamá-style routes are a different experience, typically involving multiple cenotes and local transport quirks. Do not assume one brochure photo equals the other itinerary.

Swimming comfort, life jackets, steps and crowd levels vary. Confirm inclusions with any operator you choose separately. This site does not sell tickets.
