Is Progreso Worth Visiting on a Cruise?
Yes for many passengers who want Yucatán culture and ruins access. Less ideal if you only want Caribbean reef beach-club days — compare Progreso vs Cozumel.
Progreso’s strength is the inland menu: Chichén Itzá, Uxmal, Mérida and cenotes. The long pier and Gulf beach scene are part of the setting, but they are not a substitute for Cozumel’s reef product.
Worth it when you plan around actual hours ashore. Less satisfying when expectations are “easy turquoise snorkel steps from the gangway”.
